Kai Caceres
The ocean is Kai’s namesake and her teacher. Born and raised in San Francisco, she is in her fourth year studying psychology at the University of San Diego. Grief has been formative in Kai’s life, shaping both her understanding of humanity and her desire to create spaces where people can be witnessed, held, and transformed in community. Joining Waves of Grief feels profoundly full-circle for Kai, as founder Kelsey Ellis once helped her navigate a significant season of grief during high school. This experience left a lasting imprint on Kai’s understanding of what compassionate guidance and collective healing can offer. Kai feels an intrinsic calling towards spaces that connect people to themselves, one another, and the natural world. Outside of her studies, she can be found practicing yoga, scouring her immediate surroundings for fish tacos, reading and writing poetry, and attempting to deep-condition her hair after spending too much time in the ocean — a place where, if conditions permitted, she would happily sleep and eat.
