Community Connection

Ritual

Beneath the warmth of the Panama sun, we’ll gather for a week of rest, reflection, and renewal at the stunning Sansara Surf & Yoga Resort. Through gentle movement, ocean and nature-based rituals, grief circles, and creative expression, we’ll explore what it means to rewild the heart -to return to the connected and alive places within us, making space for the dynamic, nuanced and sacred waves of grief and love. This retreat is for anyone navigating loss, change, or transition, and longing to reconnect with self, community, and the natural world. Together, we’ll remember that grief is not a problem to solve but an expression of love- and that, like the ocean, healing moves in waves.

“Each of us must find a way to live in the world with loss. The work of grief is not to let go, but to remember how deeply we are connected- to love, to each other, to the living earth.”

Who is this retreat for?

This retreat is for anyone navigating the tender terrain of grief, change, or transition - those who feel called to pause, breathe, and remember that healing happens in community, not in isolation.

You may be grieving the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a shift in identity, or the loss of a season of life. You may simply feel the quiet ache of a world in flux and long to return home to yourself.

No matter where you are in your journey, you are welcome here.
Through movement, nature, and shared story, we’ll honor grief as love in motion - learning to ride its waves together.

This is a space for all grievers and all ocean experience levels — whether you’re drawn to float, walk the shoreline, or feel the rhythm of the surf beneath you. The invitation is to come as you are! and let the ocean hold the rest.

Retreat Flow

Each day is an invitation to return home -to your body, your breath, and the living world that holds you. Rooted in eco-therapy, sacred grief work, and ocean connection, our days will unfold in a gentle rhythm of movement, reflection, and ritual.

Morning – Awakening the Senses
We begin at sunrise with grounding practices -gentle movement, breathwork, or yoga for grief- followed by a guided eco-therapy session on the beach. As the tide shifts, we’ll attune to the element guiding our day -earth, water, fire, air, or spirit — exploring how nature mirrors our inner landscape and reminds us that grief, too, is alive and cyclical.

Sharing & Integration
We’ll gather in grief-tending circles, where stories, tears, and laughter weave us into community. Drawing inspiration from Francis Weller’s “The Five Gates of Grief”, we’ll honor the many forms loss takes- not only the death of loved ones, but the endings, transitions, and exiles of self that shape our lives. Through creative expression, writing, and embodied ritual, we’ll tend to our continuing bonds, learning to hold love and sorrow side by side.

Afternoon – Rest & Rewilding
Afternoons invite rest and self-discovery. Float in the ocean, journal under a palm, or join a yoga class in the oceanfront shala. Those drawn to the water may add surf lessons or ocean adventures with Sansara’s experienced instructors, using the ocean as metaphor and mirror for resilience.

Additional daily adventures and excursions- from tide-pool explorations, horseback riding, to jungle hikes and waterfall visits - reconnect us with the wild beauty that restores the soul!

Evening – Ritual & Renewal
As the sun softens across the Pacific, we’ll gather again for closing rituals- candlelit circles, mindful yoga, meditations, and gentle communal ceremonies. Evenings flow into shared meals, laughter, and quiet reflection.

This retreat is a journey of belonging- to ourselves, to each other, and to the living earth. Together, we’ll learn to hold our waves of grief and love with tenderness, remembering that healing doesn’t mean returning to who we were, but rewilding into who we are becoming.

Kelsey went on to found the Waves of Grief Collective, which now host grief circles and retreats across 15+ locations worldwide. Her work has been recognized by the U.S. Surgeon General and featured in National Geographic’s documentary series IMPACT with Gal Gadot.

Rooted in continuing bonds, ocean therapy and meaning making modalities Kelsey’s approach invites authentic connection to self, others, and the natural world. She believes, as Francis Weller writes, that “grief and love are sisters, woven together from the beginning.”

INFO AND REGISTRATION

Join us for a transformative retreat as we celebrate the earth’s return to longer, light-filled days at the Summer Solstice. This magical time of year invites us to illuminate our own glimmers of light, and what better place to do so than amidst Ireland's sacred mountains and wild, rhythm-filled waves? Led by Waves of Grief Founder & Director Kelsey Ellis, MA CCLS and Mourning Surf founder Dr. Jamie Morrison, PhD, this retreat is a soulful blend of adventure, healing, and celebration.

Throughout our time together, we’ll honor the waves of grief we carry while embracing the beauty of renewal. As we gather and dance among Ireland's ancient lands, we’ll invite both our light and our waves of grief and love to surface, holding space for healing and transformation. We’ll honor ancient Irish traditions, including a seaside bonfire ritual to honor the Celtic goddess Áine, the goddess of sun, love, and fertility. Our days will flow between surfing in the vibrant waters of Strandhill, hiking mystical fairy trails, and restoring body and soul with seaweed baths at Voya Spa. You’ll experience deep connection through restorative movement, accompanied by live traditional Irish singing, while indulging in delicious farm-to-table meals that nourish the body as much as the spirit.

This retreat is an invitation to dance with the elements, honor what we’ve lost, and return to our center. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or spiritual renewal, this is a rare opportunity to embrace the magic of Ireland while illuminating your own inner light.

We are so excited to invite you to a truly unique experience to deeply nourish your body, mind and spirit amidst the breathtaking Irish landscape.
